For the adventurer interested in whitewater or calm water self-support kayak trips, the Dagger Katana Whitewater Crossover Kayak is the ultimate multi-day expedition boat, designed with versatility, flexibility and comfort for multiple days on the water. This is our go-to boat for Grand Canyon self-support trips.
Read our long-term review of the Dagger Katana
The Katana was designed with a balanced rocker profile for both speed and maneuverability. The adjustable drop skeg allows you to track better in flatwater, as well as the ability to fine tune your tracking in whitewater. The hull provides amazing initial stability, especially when fully loaded, while the flared side-walls create excellent secondary stability and easy rolling, great for inspiring confidence without sacrificing performance. The Katana also offers a more spacious cockpit than traditional whitewater designs for a less confining feeling, along with the best-in-the-business ContourErgo outfitting, give you plenty of comfort and additional storage space for long trips.
The 9.7 is great as a cross-over day run / overnight boat, while the 10.4 is our go to for longer trips like the Grand Canyon. The 10.4 offers more storage space than any other boat in its class, even more than the Stinger or Karma RG. Add the Jackson Hard Hat Hatch Cover for even more storage possibilities.
